Mr. Russell's Science Site
I am married to my Joy, which teaches at Rainbow Middle School, and have two great kids (Grayson and Jonathan)
I graduated from UAB with a B.S. in Psychology in 1996.
I returned to Jacksonville State University to complete a Masters in Education 2012. My certification is for grades 6 through 12 in General Science.
Upon graduating from UAB, I began working with Mountain View Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama. I was employed by the hospital as a ropes course manager and activities leader. My two and a half years working with inpatient clients was the best experience that I could have obtained to jump start my career. I began working with The Bridge Inc. outpatient services in Pell City/Ashville, Alabama in 1998. While employed by The Bridge Inc., I provided prevention counseling services for students attending the St. Clair County DAY Program. In 2000, I accepted a position to be on staff directly with the St. Clair County Day Program where I became the Clinical Coordinator.
I returned to College to pursue my Masters in Education so that I could make a difference in the lives of students in the general education classroom. Upon receiving my masters, I taught Environmental, Earth and Space, Physical Science, Biology, Pre AP Biology and AP Biology at Etowah High School. I am excited to be teaching Biology, Pre AP Biology and AP Biology this year with you here at Southside High School.
I believe that everyone can learn. Every student should be given a fair opportunity to expand their knowledge in all subject areas. I believe that students have different learning styles and individual needs that can and should be accommodated for. I am looking forward to the opportunity of being in a classroom where I can watch student growth take place.
Outside of my professional life, I have been married to my wife Joy for thirteen years. We have two boys that are blessings in our life. I enjoy spending time with my family, waterfowl hunting, and decoy carving.
